Why Fair Trade?

Fair trade is more than a way to shop — it’s a way to live!

When you are socially responsible with your consumer choices you can change lives. Fair trade ensures an equitable relationship between producer and consumer. Artisans that work with Global Sistergoods are committed to building strong communities and ensuring a better quality of life for themselves and their families wherever they are located world-wide.

Fair trade means that workers are first and foremost guaranteed a fair wage given the local context. This wage ensures the basic necessities that contribute to quality of life including food security, health, safety, and reasonable working conditions. The commitment to social responsibility is not limited to the fair trade shopper but extends as a practice in sustainable business and accountability on our part and the artisans that work with us.

While fair trade in its broadest application includes everything from coffee to cotton, specialized artisans and microfinance industries have found it especially promising. Additionally, lasting relationships with our partners open the world of enterprise and possibilities for advancement, further skills training and most importantly education; extending from the artist to their respective communities.

The potential of women to improve their communities and families through engaging in business combats the obstacles and concerns that women face world wide daily, Global Sistergoods is proud to work with women in solidarity, equality and sisterhood.
